Idea from @MysticFirefly

Other

We got a note from @MysticFirefly suggesting that we implement a rating system for the recipes, stories, and other posts on this site. We would love to know what you think about this idea. If we had a rating system in place, I guess you could rate it on a scale of… oh, wait, where was I? Instead, just leave us a comment and let us know whether or not you like the idea…

5 Forks for best? I think that would be a cool thing.

I’m actually fine without a rating system… at least as you are getting started and want to encourage a lot of postings. Plus I think ratings can be as arbitrary as each person’s tastebuds, food preferences, time to cook, etc. Maybe once you start getting tons of recipes and we need a way to sort through the volume, a rating system might be a good way to do that…?

    Thanks, Madame Maracas.

I understand what you are saying, too, Stacia Villota…

My only concern about a rating system is that people’s feelings about food are INCREDIBLY particular and individual. I think it would also tend to prejudice folks against recipes that haven’t gotten much coverage, as (at least in my case) I tend to stick with highest-rated stuff first and ignore things with few or no reviews.

David, that is an incredibly good set of points, and very closely mirrors my own thoughts on the subject. I also think that it may tend to hurt more feelings than it would help. However, Plurkfood is a democracy, and I’ll go with what most people feel. So far, the “No Ratings” side is ahead. Just in case, I’ve found a killer plug-in to do it. :)

Ratings would be helpful, but since this is a plurky thing, I agree with preserving good feelings. Comments after trying a recipe would be great, though!!

Well, comments we got, he said in a comment. :)

I like the “5 Forks” idea, with a posted suggestion that people actually try the recipe before rating.
